The Skateroom is a social entreprise that supports independent NGO’s through art and skate. They are based in Brussels Belgium. They partner with huge brands, first class international museums and well-known artits from around the world to produce – what I call – ARTBOARDS. Paul McCarthy, Ai Weiwei, Shepard Fairey and foundations such as the Andy Warhol Foundation, the Jean-Michel Basquiat Estate or the Keith Haring Foundation are partnering with The Skateroom. No wonder they have a huge range of very different ARTBOARDS. They sell them on auctions, in museum shops and online. From the proceedings they donate up to 20% to help finance skateparks and education programs in Afghanistan, Cambodia, South Africa and now in INDIA 🙂
I met Charles-Antoine Bodson, the founder of The Skateroom, last year at the Pushing.Borders conference in London and he liked our story very much. We’ve kept talking and we signed a deal 🙂
The artist Walead Beshty has designed some wonderful ARTBOARDS – some are made out of copper. Beshty (b. 1976, London, UK) is an artist and writer working in Los Angeles. Although he is most known for his work in photography, his bodies of work span a large variety of media including sculpture, painting, installation and video. 15% of the sales proceeds of the edition will come to us to support the building of our new skatepark in Janwaar and its educational program. The ARTBOARDS were launched at an auction on Nov.7th at Marciano Foundation of Art in Los Angeles in presence of Walead Beshty as well as Charles, the Skateroom founder.
