Skateboarding became a thing in India in the 2000s. It was, however, confined to cities and centres where people were already ‘in’ on the skateboarding rush. But when a skatepark came to the Indian hinterland of Madhya Pradesh in 2015, it changed things for better, for everyone, and especially for Asha Gond. Today, Asha, who lives in Janwaar village, is a pro skateboarder. This is her story of beating patriarchy, tradition, and stereotypes to achieve her dreams!

This story was produced by Vice Asia.
