This year the rains have reached Janwaar very late – it wasn’t raining until the third week of July. Soon after the first rains, Pappu and Kamla Gond, Asha’s mother, started to sow vegetables and plant trees. We have lemon, papaya, mango and guave trees along the southern end of the garden. Unfortunately the vegetables can’t get the early morning sun because of the adjacent school building, but still it should work. We had seeds for:

Palak/Spinach
Bhindi/Okra
Beans
Loki/bottle gourd
Karela/Bitter melon
Pumpkin
Torai/Snake gourd
Kakdi/ Cucumber
Ginger
Turmeric

And later in the monsoon they will plant tomatos and Brinjal.
